  1. You need 1 cup of black channa(100gm).
  2. Prepare 2 of medium sized onion.
  3. Prepare 2 of big Tomatoes.

  7. You need 1 tbsp of lemon juice.

Kadala curry step by step

  1. Soak black chana overnight or for 8 hours. Drain the water and wash it again in freshwater. cook the chana in a pressure cooker with required water, salt and a teaspoon of oil. Cook for 5 to 6 whistles. Let pressure reside naturally..
  2. In pan heat 1 tbsp coconut oil,add cumin seeds,curry leaves and finely chopped garlic to it..
  3. Add onion to it and saute it until soft..
  4. Add tomatoes to it and saute it until the tomatoes are soft and mushy. Add required salt for onion and tomatoes alone as we have already added salt to the channa..
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder. Saute till the raw smell of spice powders goes away..
  6. Grind all the ingredients given in "To Grind" section in a blender. Add some cooked chana also while blending, it helps to thicken the gravy..
  7. Add ground paste and mix well. Adjust water consistency.Boil for 2 minutes.
  8. Add the cooked chanaalong with the water and boil for 5 -6 minutes..
  9. Switch off the flame add lemon juice and finely chopped coriander leaves.Mix well..
  10. Kadalai curry is ready to be served with appam,chapathi or hot rice..
